2013 TVB Star Awards

Triumph in the Skies II was victorious at the TVB Star Awards taking home an award in nearly every category that it was nominated in. The TVB Star Awards was previously known as My Astro on Demands Favourite Awards but this year the event is organised by TVB Entertainment News with Astro on Demand and MyFM as media partners. This is Malaysia’s annual award ceremony celebrating the best of the best of the TVB in television. It is usually considered to be the precursor to Hong Kong’s TVB Anniversary Awards and gives a good indication of who will take home the prestigious prizes back on home land. It runs on an all-public voting system with the public having full say in who should take home the prized trophy. The TVB Star Awards was held yesterday, the 1st of December, with a number of stars in attendance, including Him LawEliza Sam, Ruco Chan, Kenneth Ma, Tavia Yueng, Linda Chung, Myolie Wu, Ron Ng, Edwin Siu and Julian Cheung

There was quite a number of sequels this year with Triumph in the Skies and The Hippocratic Crush (AKA On Call 36 Hours II) generating some of the most discussion this year. Together, these two dramas bagged the most awards at the ceremony with them taking home 9 out of the 15 My Favourite Top 15 TVB Drama Characters. I could agree with most of the award winners but I am just a bit iffy with Linda Chung‘s win for My Favourite TVB Leading Actress. Don’t get me wrong, she is a great actress and has the capabilities to lead dramas but she just didn’t deserve it for her role in Brother’s Keeper. I actually thought that Kristal Tin was a much better lead actress there than Linda and definitely much more deserving of the award. But, nonetheless, congrats to all the award winners for their performance!

*Winners in green.

Check out the fashion of the night! I do wish that there were full pictures of the artists.

The best on-screen couple on the night wore some outfits that complemented them perfectly. Tavia Yeung played it safe by wearing a neutral dress paired with a dazzling necklace that showed off her shoulders. Kenneth Ma opted for a unique look by wearing a flora themed tux, which surprisingly, he pulled off really well.

Linda Chung and her beau, Ruco Chan were very fitting for the night. Like Tavia, Linda wore a simple neutral dress which accentuates her innocent look. Ruco dressed himself in a blue suit which really worked for him. I think it works really well with his tan complexion. I think they were one of the best looking couples of the night. Ruco’s bold colour balances really with Linda’s neutral look.

I loved Eliza Sam‘s dress! It was a peachy-pink chiffon dress which helps to grip the innocent and bubbly persona that she has. I’m not sure whether I liked Him Law‘s attire or not. His top half was perfect but I really wasn’t sure about the feathers around his waist or his skirt bottom.

The one-should dress was really fitting for Mandy Wong. She could have pulled her attire together with some earrings. Benjamin Yuen was one of the best-dressed men of the night. He pulled off an effortless look with his pale blue suit. He wore a casual shirt underneath his suit but somehow he seemed very pulled together.

Something went quite wrong with the fashion choice for this couple. I do not understand the feeling that Kristal Tin was trying to portray with her dress. Was she trying to be dark, edgy, sweet or innocent? If she had allowed her hair to flow free, it would have worked much better with her outfit. I have no idea with what Edwin Siu is trying to do with his outfit. He looked like a jockey from the 90’s with his texturised hair.

Nancy Wu nails the peek-a-boo effect and she manages to work a ponytail into his formal event. I think her outfit night would have worked better if she had a necklace on, but nonetheless, she was very beautiful for the night. I’m not a big fan of the suit jacket that Ron Ng wore and neither am I a fan of his v-neck shirt cut.

Myolie Wu was really dazzling for the night, shimmering from top to bottom. The dress fitted her really well and helped to show-off her beautiful figure. Was it really cold for the night because Julian Cheung‘s looked really heavy on his, but he carried well with the outfit. Only he is able to do so!

Elvina Kong‘s dress seemed too casual for the night while Eric Tsang‘s outfit was a bit too crazy for my liking.
