My Opinion on Itazura na Kiss 2 ~ Love in OKINAWA (Special)

INKLIO

Hi my fellow and dearest readers! Guess who’s back!? That’s right, me! I missed you guys, did you miss me? It’s been soooo long since I dramaed and blogged but I am very glad to be back on board! I just want to thank you all for sticking by me and my blog even when I was on hiatus! You can be sure to receive drama posts from me now!

Soooo, prior to my exam, I had heard news of Itazura na Kiss 2 ~ Love in TOKYO coming out this Spring but I was a little upset since it was going to air during my exam period! I loved the first season and was so ready to live-watch this season! I was ready to watch it right under exams and to my surprise, it was only the special Itazura na Kiss 2 ~ Love in OKINAWA that aired during my exam period and that the drama itself will start airing the 24th of November, so that means I will be able to live-watch it (yay!).

INKLIO

INKLIO Oh gosh, did I miss Irie Naoki (Furuwaka Yuki) and Aihara Kotoko (Miki Honoka)! Such an unlikely couple who are oh-so-likely! It’s so interesting to see just how much their relationship has progressed since INK to this special. While the development of feelings did feel like it happened too quickly, it does progress very nicely in the sense that there is still very much the same personalities with Naoki and Kotoko despite their now forever changed relationship. I just really love how Naoki is still the same guy who possesses a distant exterior regarding his love towards Kotoko while Kotoko is still the same girl who is still crazily in love with her hubby, just as she always has been. Character-wise and personality-wise, it’s not a surprise that this carried over into the special and subsequently and presumably into the next instalment since it is a continuation on the same storyline. However, I guess what surprised me the most is how the characters are still very much who they are despite the change in relationship status. This makes me really anticipate the next instalment, and honestly, I can’t wait!

I think the development of this special was just right; there was enough punch to create the climax but it wasn’t overly done and it worked well with Naoki and Kotoko’s relationship, cementing their newlywed life and pushing their relationship forward. The whole special was essentially for Naoki to show that he has fallen for Kotoko and while that was exactly the case, it did in a way feel forced at some parts. Throughout the whole honeymoon he has remained quite cold and distant towards Kotoko but then there was a huge turnaround and suddenly he it was like he finally realised that he is on a honeymoon with her. I guess this was why it felt forced at some point. This way that he treats her is characteristic of who he is and that is what makes their relationship lively. I wouldn’t change it any other way because that just wouldn’t be their romance story that I have come to know. However, I really would have liked to see a “warmer” Naoki which would have helped this special flow along much more nicely.

INKLIO

INKLIO Ahhhh, Kotoko is still Kotoko, the innocent and naive girl who fell in love with Naoki at first site. Her try at English was hilarious and is just characteristic of her. I love her and her innocent thinking. She fully supports her hubby seeing only the best from him. She isn’t to afraid to admit that it was her who waited six years for him and was the one who took the initiative to pursue him. In fact, she is proud of it but because of this she is scared of losing him, afraid that she is not good enough for him. Even when she saw him get close to Mari Horiuchi (Yuka Masuda), she just kept to herself despite clearly being upset about their closeness. It’s still early days in their relationship and I am sure that as the second season takes off, they will grow to have a more equal relationship.

INKLIO Mama Irie just cannot let the lovebirds be can she? Even on their honeymoon she manages to sneak around (along with the rest of the family) with her camera and take happy snaps of the couple! Mama was the one who brought the couple closer together so I guess what she is doing is for the better of the couple. Kotoko is soooo cute! She doesn’t even realise that her whole family is right beside her on this honeymoon!

I can’t wait for the second season which should be here very soon! I’ve seen the Taiwanese version It Started with a Kiss with Ariel Lin and Joe Cheng but I didn’t see the sequel They Kiss Again so this second season with be a fresh storyline for me.

Welcome back! And hope the exam(s) went well! 🙂 Funny, I actually didn’t like and enjoy the special as much as I thought (okay- hoped, craved & obsessed over more like) I would – but still, I’m glad you did. I thought they wasted so much time on nitty-gritty bits rather than on our leading couple – it was basically to me a lot of slapstick and very little heart? And it’s interesting that you said that Kotoko is still Kotoko because I… kinda didn’t. What sealed the deal for me in S1 was actually Kotoko more than Naoki – so much heart and sincerity from this girl, even if she’s not the brightest bulb, but in this SP I thought she acted mostly really silly. Maybe I’m just looking at the SP from a harder and more critical lenses though, because like you said “It’s still early days in their relationship and I am sure that as the second season takes off, they will grow to have a more equal relationship.”

Anticipating S2, but honestly I’m dialing down my expectations way, way low.

AWWWW, thanks! <3 ahahaha, same same! But since its a special, there wad only so much that they could have packed within that limited time frame.

Yeahhhh, Kotoko was really for me, the heart of season 1. I love her persistence and undying love for Naoki!

As with all sequels, one shouldn't have high expectations!

    HIIIII.

I feel kinda bad for saying that my favorite part of the SP was actually with Naoki & Kotoko’s family members following them along on the honeymoon. But really, that was the part that made me laugh the most heheh.

lololol, you could see it in him that he was like *facepalm* when Kotoko couldn’t realise who they were!

I kind of skimmed through this one even though I didn’t watch the first season of Japanese version as I’m well-versed about the story (seen the 96 japanese version and the Taiwanese version) and “girl chasing after guy” is just not my cup of tea so I thought I should just check out the SP where both got married already as the love will be less one-sided. It’s pretty cute and fluffy but I agree that I hope to see a warmer side of Naoki. But he won’t be Naoki anymore if he’s warm, hahaha.

Wecome back! I thought the special was ok, but I am incredibly curious about S2. I adore They Kiss Again and have watched it multiple times, so I’m curious to see how this version goes. Once S2 is over you really should watch They Kiss Again to compare, plus I actually like it a lot more than It Started with a Kiss. I’m hoping the Japanese version can continue that trend 🙂

Hehe, thank you! I’m glad to be back! Maybe, if I can find a good version of there!
