My Opinion on The Girl Who Sees Smells: First Impressions

2I think I have something to indulge myself in, in the form of The Girl Who Sees Smells. It has won my heart already with the pleasing cast, pleasing acting and pleasing directing. It is such a nice all-around go-to drama and is off to a pleasing start, giving me something more than I want and more. It hits all the right notes of being a good drama and that ought to be a good sign, though one will never know because any given drama may go haywire halfway in. Hopefully TGWSS is not one of those dramas because I am really liking what I am seeing thus far. TGWSS is sweet and simple and manages to balances the humour and more serious side pretty well. It is so satisfying to watch it grow and develop and hopefully it will continue to be so because TGWSS is looking like it is a promising drama.

There is such a nice balance here between the light-heartedness and the police procedural. The pacing is something I quite enjoy with bits and pieces of this mysterious puzzle appearing here and there one piece at a time. There was such intensity with the opening scene and slowly they are establishing the back story by letting one piece at a time to drop. I quite like it because it keeps the intensity up while at the same time it does not feel too overloaded with storylines that can deter the focus away from where it is really meant to head.

I am adoring Park Yoo Chun and Shin Se Kyung‘s coupling as Choi Moo Gak and Oh Cho Rim who both have very similar backstories. They both lost their loved ones and that completely changed their lives around as well as having given them each a special ability, in her case the ability to see smells and in his case the ability, or lack thereof, to feel sensation. The drama seems to be spending an equal amount of time developing each of their stories, developing not only their individual character arcs but also pacing them together as a couple. Already, they have a very strong connection with one another that feels very natural, courtesy of Yoo Chun and Se Kyung who share such beautiful chemistry, one that I can describe as being perfect despite them having yet to reach the romantic stage in their relationship. I really adore watching them together, how they play dorky yet serious at the same time. They are just sizzling right off the bat. They are such a fun couple to watch and I especially love how quickly they built up their chemistry. It was exactly that – right off the bat from their very first interaction together. They are so cute to watch and their connection is sizzling. I am adoring them more and more and that’s definitely a good thing. What’s even better is that they are off on friendly terms with one another and able to have discussions with one another without either one storming off and I think that in many ways has helped them to become a loveable couple. And even better than that is how quickly they are sharing secrets with one another!

The reason they are spending time with one another right now is because they both need each other help them with their careers. She needs him as her acting partner and he needs her as his investigating partner. They don’t know it yet, but they need each other more than just to help each other out with their careers. They need each other to complete each other’s lives for reasons their heart does not yet know but something they will soon come to know once they get to spend more time with one another and realise that they are just perfect for one another. Their lives will get more intertwined with one another once they realise the connection that stems between them. For Moo Gak though, that will make him even more determined to catch the culprit and protect Cho Rim from danger.

TGWSS is primarily about Cho Rim and Moo Gak and the second leads are merely there to help with telling of that part of the story. I am that engrossed with the drama right now I barely even noticed the lack of screen time for the second leads Yeom Mi (Yoon Jin Seo) and Kwon Jae Hee (Namgoong Min). In saying so, their limited screentime sets up for the bigger picture in both establish Cho Rim and Moo Gak’s romance story as well as the murder case that unexpectedly ties them together. Cho Rim and Moo Gak alone are more than enough to sustain the drama and in particular, with this introductory phase they were more than enough to provide so much substance to the drama. I love them the way they are, how simple and uncomplicated they are. I hope there won’t be any love triangles to complicate their relationship but even if there is one, I am sure they will be able to work through it together and come out stronger as a couple because there should be nothing that can stop them two from being together.

There’s nothing that I don’t love about this drama yet. It’s a such a warm drama despite the darkness to it. It is such a joy to watch and who wouldn’t love the chemistry that is between the leads, especially when they are handling both the comedic and serious matters equally as well.

I am up the episode 13 and I also really like this show. I love Cho Rim and Moo Gak’s chemistry and relationship. You do get to see more of our second leads as we go on, and it’s looking like they will take on a much larger role in the end of the series than they did in the beginning.

I’m all up to date now! I really enjoyed it which explains why I am prioritising it over my studies 😛 But in all honestly, it’s been pretty good, there are some flaws here and there but I think overall, the drama stands out as a pretty good one. Added to that is Cho Rim and Moo Gak who have a really nice, solid relationship further exemplified by their beautiful chemistry. I can’t wait for the finale this week!

I’m so glad you’re enjoying the drama. I finished it last Wednesday reluctantly since I didn’t really want it to end. One of the things I liked about it was how they managed to balance the romantic comedy with the investigation procedures. I won’t say anything else to not spoil it for you, but I really enjoyed this drama. 🙂
