Lego Lee either really loves to work or really loves to work because with barely enough time to rest, he is back on the small screen with a new drama. I’ve checked on him every now and then since the conclusion of my all-time fave TW drama In A Good Way but none of his follow-up dramas really appealed to me. But this might all change with Love @ Seventeen, a drama that shares the similar nostalgia theme as IAGW. Except, this time the timeline progresses from the high school era right through to the current era. This drama also works the theme of missed love and I think it will work really well with this nostalgia theme that the has going on. Read more
Today premieres the new Sunday-night SETTV idol drama Refresh Man filling in the shoes of Bromance. Refresh Man stars Aaron Yan who is making his return back to dramaland and Joanne Tseng who is ready for another drama adventure after her successful venture in Marry Me, or Not? Rounding up the main cast is Lene Lai and Jack Lee. Refresh Man is a workplace drama, exactly right up my alley, and is a mix of all the elements that previous SETTV workplace dramas are so fond of using. Read more
I have been waiting for the premiere of Marry Me, or Not? since what feels like forever and now it is just a day away from our television screens. It will air on CTV, following the heart-wrenching drama fare The Day I Lost U which will be a nice change of tone from the offering of its predecessor. I am super duper excited for this drama and from what the teasers and previews have offered, this drama looks like it will be a beautiful, quirky offering, something that is right up my alley. I haven’t been captivated by any Taiwanese drama this year based on previews alone until this drama came along so it better be good because it has set my expectations high and I really want it to meet these expectations. The drama that was Aim High even though it did not aim very high recently concluded and that means SETTV is ready for a new Friday-night drama is ready to take over that slot. That drama is Murphy (莫非，這就是愛情; Chinese translation: Could this be love?) starring Danson Tang and Ivelyn Lee. The official title is something quite expected. It is lackluster on paper but that one word “Murphy” actually holds a heavy definition to it. SETTV is known for giving dramas recycled, cheeky titles but this time around, I actually prefer the literal title which sounds even better in Chinese. I haven’t seen Danson in ages since Hana Kimi which is a very long time ago and I have never seen Ivelyn around but they do make quite a refreshing couple. Starring alongside them is Jolin Chien who will cause a stir in Danson and Ivelyn’s relationship. This drama doesn’t seem to excite me all that much but hopefully it will lift things up from Aim High. Read more
Someone Like You released its 16 minute long trailer earlier yesterday at its press conference ahead of tomorrow’s premiere. While I am still a bit iffy with the plot, I quite like what I am seeing from the trailer! It’s a nice mix of cool tones with warm tones so that’s a positive sign. The cinematography is really nice just as the stills showed and the arrangement and drawing out of certain scenes are also really nice. The team behind SLY are putting in a lot of production effort to bring this drama piece to life and so far it is translating on screen. Read more
It seems like SETTV is really taking out the big guns to revive its Sunday-night dramas which have not been performing so well in recent times. The promos for the upcoming drama Someone Like You which will take over Say Again Yes I Do (AKA I Do2) on the 11th of January next year is just soooooo beautiful to look at! The stills are some of the best that I have seen in a long while. It’s soft to the eyes and the colours work perfectly well together. I can’t get enough of it which is just as well because more keeps coming out. And I say keep them coming because who can say no to pretty visuals? Read more
Merry Christmas my beautiful readers! I hope you are all enjoying this festive season!
Sunday night drama Say Yes I Do Again (AKA I Do2 ) will be ending in a few weeks and that means a new drama is getting ready to take over the spot. SETTV Sunday night dramas have been quite a dud in recent years, particularly after Miss Rose. King Flower (AKA Substitute Princess OR Replacement Princess OR The Adventure Of King Flower) was a relative success but the drama went through some major changes during its run. Love Around was just plain boring and I actually sat around recapping it. Déjà Vu and Fall in Love with Me were both trainwreck makjang crazies and just kills brain cells. The currently airing SYIDA is draggy, tedious and falls into the boring category. None of these five dramas have managed to excite me but the upcoming drama Someone Like You (Chinese literal title: Hearing Happiness) is visually appealing! The drama itself might stink and truthfully, I am just going to close my eyes and hope for the best for this drama. At least the visuals are pleasing to look at. Read more
Having thoroughly enjoyed both the Taiwanese and Korean versions of Fated to Love You, I decided to write a comparison post comparing the two versions, since I think it will be fun to compare the different aspects and to highlight the similarities and differences between the two versions. I had an unbearably difficult time in deciding how to type of this post which included me backspacing everything that I wrote numerous times. Even right now I am still quite iffy how I should set about on this post! If you have any ideas on how to write these posts (took me ages to write this one!), you should definitely comment and let me know for any future posts! I’m not sure how this comparison post will turn out since I’ve never written one like this but here it is anyways. I hope you guys enjoy this post! If you saw both versions, please leave a comment below letting me know which version you liked better! Read more
You Light Up My Star is premiering tomorrow night and there has been an overflow of promotion materials this past week. I highly anticipate this drama because has some big stars and is directed by one of the most respected directors in Taiwanese dramas, Director Winnie. Director Winnie’s last drama was the critically acclaimed In Time With You which I wholeheartedly loved right from the beginning. His dramas are always a treat to watch and I’m sure that this will be the same with YFAS.
An extended trailer and BTS intro was recently released and I am loving what I am seeing. YFAS is something I look forward to mainly because of the different genre that it is conveying. It’s a romance story at heart but shaped around it is much more than that; it is about the character’s step to reach the position they are in and I am sure there is going to be lots of heartfelt background stories that will unfold. YFAS is also not going to be short on kisses with a dozen or so kisses between the OTP in just this trailer alone! Plus, there’s lots chemistry that I see flying! Read more
Director Winnie is a critically acclaimed Taiwanese director and his works always stir up lots of talk. He is back with a new drama, You Light Up My Star, starring Joe Cheng and Janine Chang. This is Joe’s comeback drama after serving his mandatory military service and this marks Janine’s return to home soil after having developed her career in mainland China for the past few years. This isn’t the first time that Janine and Joe have worked, having previously starred opposite each other as leads in 2008’s Honey and Clover. This drama is looking to be a hit because not only does have a star-studded cast and award-winning director but it is also penned by the the screenwriters behind the hit dramas They Kiss Again and A Good Wife etc. YFAS has got it all on and off screens. It premieres in two days time (Sunday) on FTV and will air for 20 eps. I’d love to check it out but life is so busy right now I’ll have to save this for some marathon-watching later on in the year.
