My Opinion on Goblin

2016 went off with a bang with the arrival of Goblin which really sealed in the drama game for the year. It delivered something amazing and went above and beyond to blow my expectations away. It’s definitely not your everyday, average drama but a drama that just wows you in all aspects and piques interest with every ep. There was never one dull moment at all and, in fact, each ep generates further anticipation with the drama. Goblin is a drama that is driven sincerely by good scripting, which is prevalent throughout the entire drama, so a huge pat on the back Kim Eun Sook for writing such an amazing drama and bringing it to life following through with her other critically acclaimed hit, Descendants of the Sun, from the same year. Goblin, like Descendants of the Sun, is set in a fictional world but with a very different narrative structure. It was one that I had never seen before and surprisingly, it works, and it works amazingly well. Read more

My Opinion on Doctors

1Being in love stems from the heart as well as from the brain and no one would know better than doctors themselves who are in a constant battle with these two vital organs to one’s survival. Doctors is a drama that centres on the obvious occupation of doctors and the battle that they have every day to perform well in their jobs as well as their struggle to manage their own romance. Going into the drama, I thought it would have been a lot more tense with a lot more internal struggles but the drama turned out to be a lot lighter than what I expected in the sense that it focuses more on their profession and the romance than it does the internal affairs. This made watching it very easy and overall lifted the drama experience. Read more

My Opinion on Lucky Romance

Lucky RomanceLove is not something that you can force. If it’s there, it’s there; if it’s not then it’s not. Luck is not what brings together a couple; it is fate and if fate has it that two people are to be together, regardless of whether the luck that they experience may be good or bad, they will still be together. Lucky Romance tells the story of a woman who never considered romance as such to exist in her life as she believes she is cursed by bad luck. However, that all changed when she met her lucky star, changing her perception of luck from bad to good. The romance was one that was lucky indeed. Read more

My Opinion on Descendants of the Sun: First Impressions

Descendants of the SunI don’t think I have loved a K-drama as I did from the get-go as much as I did for Descendants of the Sun for a long time, and that’s a good thing of course, meaning this drama is heading off in the right direction. I am just so surprised with how quickly I fell for this drama. This drama is just amazing and already is filled with so much punch in these first three eps. This drama is not without its flaws though, but it starts off so spectacularly well that whatever flaws it has, it all seems very minuscule. I am just loving this drama very much and can’t wait to see what it has in stores for us, but regardless of whatever it has, it will hopefully be something that brings the drama to greater heights. My Opinion on She Was Pretty

17All the good dramas seem to be popping up all at once because out of all the dramas I’ve seen this year, the ones I really like are the ones from this past two month, and I’ve got another one to add onto my list. I’ve been hearing good reviews about She Was Pretty and caved in, marathoning through 15 eps in one day, and despite my current commitments, I have no regrets because it is just as good as everyone says it is. It’s a drama that has not only has both substance and fluff, but has them in perfect proportions. SWP is everything that I want from a drama and so much more and that is what makes it so great. In Time With You vs. The Time We Were Not In Love

我可能不會愛你宣傳照

The Time We Were Not In Love

I was really looking forward to The Time We Were Not In Love as the remake of the hit Taiwanese drama In Time With You. I wholeheartedly adored ITWY and to date, it is one of my favourite dramas of all time. I had high expectations for TTWWNIL but I knew not to keep them up too high, but despite my low expectations of the drama, it still managed to really disappoint me, so much so that I just gave up watching it and had to push myself to finish it for the sake of finishing it. In fact, now that I look at it, TTWWNIL completely butchered ITWY. I did finish TTWWNIL in the end and it was nice to see a final closure to the couple who could have had their love story drawn summed up in two eps. The couple already knew themselves that their hearts belong to one another and this was the main reason why the drama was so draggy to watch. Read more

My Opinion on Bride of the Century

BOTCBride of the Century just gets juicer and juicer with time! It’s a drama about identity swap and I’ve seen it all before in the TW-drama King Flower where not only was there an identity swap storyline, but the male leads also had a switcheroo. BOTC is basically KF with a ghostly element and that the two identity swappers are alive. They are essentially the same drama but somehow watching two unlikely people fall for each other always gets to me. Despite this premises being done to death, I just couldn’t help myself but fall in love with the drama more and more with time! This drama is so clichéd but everything works so seamlessly for it and that is what makes this drama a well-worth watching experience. Read more

My Opinion on Fated to Love You (Korean) Episodes 13-20 (Final)

Fated to Love YouAfter what has been quite a long stretch, Fated to Love You finally ended its run. FTLY was a drama that I had high expectations for even before the drama started filming. I immediately perked up to the idea of it since I whole-heartedly enjoyed the original and I haven’t seen a Korean drama of this genre. I had quite high expectations for it since it is a remake of a drama which I really love. It might have been billed as a remake but it is so much more than just a remake. It forged realistic characters and really brought the storylines alive in way that was filled with charisma. While it does not stand out as a stellar or original drama, what I ultimately enjoyed the most about was its ability to establish itself as being more than just a mere remake. Read more

My Opinion on Fated to Love You (Korean): First Impressions

Image and video hosting by TinyPic Popular Taiwanese drama Fated to Love You‘s Korean sister which also goes by the name of FTLY is having a hilarious but banger of a start. It is definitely living up to being a remake but it stands out as being more than just a remake. For me, to differentiate yourself from being a remake is one of the biggest factors to a good remake and even despite the fact that it is a remake, I like to take every drama as its own standalone representative because there are no two dramas which are the same; they might be similar but they are not the same. People who have already seen the original do not need to see another carbon copy just with a different cast. A remake is, on top of everything else, about differentiating yourself and adding your own sparkles to the original to really make it scream out uniqueness. It’s early days but FTLY seems to be doing this, maybe except for the carbon-copy of the title. I like what FTLY seems to be doing; it’s pulling bits and pieces from the original while adding in its own elements which all seem to be working for this remake. Read more

My Opinion on You From Another Star

I just sucked into watching this sucker of a baby (hehe) because of positive receptions all round that it received and I enjoyed it quite a lot actually. It was a nice watch and was a really enjoyable watching experience but it was definitely overrated. I haven’t laid my eyes on supernatural, mystical k-drama for quite a long time. In fact, I think the last one I saw was Secret Garden which has been quite a while now. Actually, I think it was I Hear Your Voice (AKA I Can Hear Your Voice) but that was barely scratching the supernatural theme. While You From Another Star (AKA My Love from the Star OR You Who Came from the Stars) covered a plot that didn’t seem to work all too well on paper, it proved the opposite on-screen. It’s a drama that’s light, fluffy and proved beyond boundaries the extent of love. It’s a beautiful watch and got your heart stirring each ep. Seemingly, it knew when and how to tug at your heart’s strings and making your emotions run wild. There were flaws but overall everything in this drama worked liked magic (kekeke). Read more
